If you have a passion to teach English, particularly in a foreign land you do not need to be an English major. Even non-native English speakers can teach English for as long as you have a valid proof that you have a good command of the English language and are qualified to teach it. Having a TEFL certificate will definitely be a good proof of that qualification and there is no restriction as to who can get one. Of course all you need to do is take the course and pass the certification program as well as other requirements of the TEFL curriculum. You would also want to know that all over the world, there are many TEFL courses being offered, but if you want to get the most recognized TELF Certificate course, using the Cambridge/RSA of Cambridge ELT Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults or CELTA and the Trinity College Licentiate Diploma or LTCL Diploma in TESOL are the best ones to take.

It is very interesting to know that children and adults learn languages in rather different ways. I have worked as an adult with a program called Rocket Spanish, and I have found it very useful because it explains to me in English some of the fine points of Spanish. I have used other programs as well, and I found myself frustrated by one that was entirely in Spanish with pictures.
Children are such learning sponges that they can learn any language, or just about anything, without the kind of logical support in my native tongue that I found very useful. This all made more sense to me when I found some research that indicated that around puberty, the way our brains work changes. Teenagers and adults will learn Spanish, or any second language, more effectively and rapidly if they receive explanations in their native tongue. I know how often I would say “That makes sense!” and now I know that in learning Spanish in this way, I was being a typical learner.
